HIV
testing carried on a voluntary basis with appropriate pre-test and post-test
counseling is considered to be a better strategy and is in accordance
to the WHO guidelines on HIV testing. The basic aims and objectives
of testing are to:
Monitor
the trend of HIV infection in a population or subgroup for facilitation
of intervention using unlinked anonymous testing.
Test
blood or organs or tissue for ensuring safety of the recipients.
Identify an individual with HIV infection for diagnosing or voluntary
testing purposes.
